It features the powerful Symbian UIQ software platform, support for high-speed 3G (UMTS) internet access, fully functional Web browser (with RSS feeds), and secure push email. Other features include a 2.8-inch touchscreen, 2-megapixel camera (protected by sliding cover), secondary lens on the front for video calls, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b), and an FM radio.

The Sony Ericsson P990i can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides tri-band connectivity (900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.

Offering a unique design, the P990i's numeric keypad flips down to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, which offers easy entry of text into email and documents. The keypad offers standard navigation keys placed along the top, which consist of two soft keys, a five-way navigation toggle, a back button, and a clear button. When the keypad is flipped up, you'll see a 2.5-inch diagonal screen, but the screen grows to a full 2.8 inches when the keypad is flipped down. It also has a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and support for up to 256K colors.

This Sony Ericsson P990i mobile phone is a 3G data-enabled device, compatible with third-generation mobile networks that offer broadband-like transfer speeds - up to 384 kbps - providing quick and easy access to audio and video streaming, Web surfing, multimedia messaging, and email wherever you go. The P990i includes a secondary camera lens on the front that lets you use the phone as a video phone. During a video call (placed to a compatible phone on a compatible network), you can see a live video stream of the person you're talking to and they can see you. When the only choice around is GSM, the P990i can hop onto a GPRS data link. Alternatively, you can also switch to a Wi-Fi connection (802.11b) when you find an available wireless LAN/hotspot.

You can take advantage of the QWERTY keyboard for messaging, or use the device's integrated handwriting recognition to write your email and SMS messages. With a carrier data plan, you can easily connect to the Internet and browse the Web with the included Opera browser.

The Sony Ericsson P990i shines as a music player, offering a great way to listen and organize your digital tunes on the go.
